From leading the care team and developing individualized wellness plans to coordinating with other healthcare providers and mentoring staff, Directors of Nursing are the heartbeat of our communities. Finding a Calling in Senior Care

Tammy joined our community in October 2024, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge, energy, and a deep love for working with older adults. Her inspiration to work in senior living goes back to childhood, when time spent with her grandmother and her grandmother’s friends made a lasting impression. “I’ve always loved being around seniors,” Tammy shares. “I enjoy hearing their tips on life and regrets to avoid.”

Tammy’s journey to Fairmont began when she was looking for a new and meaningful challenge, one where she could truly use her skills to make a difference. As Director of Nursing, every day is different, but it always begins with her connecting directly with residents and staff. From interviewing new care staff to evaluating potential residents and coordinating with local vendors, Tammy wears many hats, and wears them all with compassion and grace.

Building Bonds and Bringing Residents “Home”

Tammy’s favorite part of her role? It’s the relationships. “I enjoy getting to know residents for who they are—and who they were,” she says. One of the most meaningful experiences she’s had so far involved helping a resident return from a skilled nursing facility to live out her final days at Fairmont. Tammy recalls, “She made me promise to bring her ‘home’ before she passed. It warms my heart to know she felt this was her home, not just a place to be because she needed help.”

Moments like these are why Tammy does what she does. They’re proof that senior living is about more than care—it’s about dignity, connection, and honoring the life stories of every resident.

Passion, Perspective, and Personality

Tammy is a firm believer that working in senior living is a rewarding experience. “The work can be demanding, but you grow personally and professionally through the relationships you build and the lives you touch,” she explains. Her approach blends leadership with heart, and her team and residents feel the impact daily.

Outside of work, Tammy enjoys exploring new places, from hidden roadside attractions to must-visit restaurants. Fun fact? Her middle name is Arizona, even though she wasn’t born there and didn’t visit until she was almost 40!

When it comes to community traditions, Tammy’s favorite is Trunk or Treat, an event she experienced her very first week on the job. “Seeing the kids in costume brought so much joy,” she says. She also loves encouraging residents to socialize and stay involved. “Community means creating a supportive environment where everyone feels like they belong.”

With coffee in hand (always), a romance book on the nightstand, and a heart full of care, Tammy continues to make a profound difference in the lives of residents every single day.
