Celebrating Pride in Food Service Week at Fairmont Senior Living of Washington Township

At Fairmont Senior Living of Washington Township, food is more than a daily necessity. It is a shared experience, a comfort, and often the highlight of the day. During Pride in Food Service Week, we take time to recognize the dedication, creativity, and heart that go into every meal served in our community. This year, we are especially proud to shine a spotlight on our Dietary Director, Kyle Martin, whose passion and experience help shape the dining experience our residents enjoy every day.

Celebrating Pride in Food Service Week

Pride in Food Service Week is a national celebration that honors food service professionals who work in healthcare and senior living communities. These individuals play a critical role in supporting resident wellness, safety, and quality of life. From menu planning and food safety to presentation and hospitality, dietary teams ensure that meals nourish both body and spirit.

In a senior living community, dining is often one of the most anticipated parts of the day. It is a time when residents gather, connect with friends, and create meaningful moments. Pride in Food Service Week gives us the opportunity to recognize the professionals who make those moments possible.

At Fairmont Senior Living of Washington Township, Kyle Martin leads that effort with excellence.

Meet Kyle Martin: A Lifelong Passion for Food Service

Kyle Martin brings 24 years of food service experience to his role as Dietary Director. A lifelong Ohioan, Kyle has been part of the Fairmont Senior Living of Washington Township team for more than three years. His journey in the culinary world has taken him through a wide range of settings, from fast casual restaurants to elegant dining establishments.

Throughout his career, Kyle learned from multiple chefs and leaders who emphasized precision, creativity, and attention to detail. Those lessons shaped his approach to food service. Quality matters. Presentation matters. Most importantly, the experience of the person enjoying the meal matters.

Kyle’s favorite part of working in food service is simple and heartfelt. He loves seeing the satisfied smile on someone’s face when they take that first bite of something delicious. That reaction never gets old. In senior living, those smiles often carry even deeper meaning, because food connects residents to memories, traditions, and one another.

Bringing Quality and Creativity to Fairmont

Kyle’s background in diverse dining environments influences the meals served at Fairmont Senior Living of Washington Township. His focus on quality ingredients and thoughtful presentation elevates the dining experience for residents every day.

One of his favorite events to cook was the Open House reception hosted when the community received its Gold Credential in Montessori-Inspired Lifestyle. The appetizers served at that celebration were not just flavorful. They were unique and fun, reflecting both Kyle’s creativity and the spirit of the event. It was an opportunity to showcase how dining can be both nourishing and memorable.

For Kyle, food is not just about following a recipe. It is about creating something that residents look forward to and enjoy together.

Food as Connection and Community

At Fairmont Senior Living of Washington Township, meals are designed to do more than meet nutritional guidelines. They are designed to bring people together.

Every day, Kyle strives to provide meals that are not only nutritious but also foster connection. Dining rooms become spaces where friendships grow. Families gather around the table during special events. Staff members share conversation and laughter with residents over breakfast or lunch.

In senior living, the dining experience often shapes how residents feel about their day. A well-prepared meal can spark conversation, encourage appetite, and provide comfort. Kyle understands this deeply, and it shows in the care he puts into every menu.

What Residents and Team Members Are Saying

The true measure of a Dietary Director’s impact can often be heard in the voices of those he serves.

Joyce S shared, “I enjoy the time he takes to prepare our food. He really cares.”

Janice H added, “The food is great and Kyle is really funny.”

Those comments reflect not only the quality of the meals but also the warmth Kyle brings into the dining room.

The appreciation extends to his team as well. Devin, a member of the dietary staff, said unprompted, “Kyle is really understanding. He is one of the best bosses I’ve ever been around.”

Leadership in food service is about more than menus and schedules. It is about mentoring staff, maintaining high standards, and creating a positive environment behind the scenes. Kyle’s approach supports both residents and employees, helping the entire dietary department thrive.

Supporting Wellness Through Nutrition

Proper nutrition plays a vital role in senior health. Balanced meals help maintain energy levels, support immune function, and contribute to overall well being. In a senior living setting, dietary teams must also consider individual preferences, dietary restrictions, and evolving health needs.

Kyle works closely with residents and staff to ensure meals meet these needs while still delivering flavor and enjoyment. From everyday dining to special celebrations, he keeps wellness at the forefront.

During Pride in Food Service Week, it is important to recognize that food service professionals in senior living communities carry a significant responsibility. They help ensure safety through food handling standards, accommodate special diets, and adapt to changing health requirements. Their work supports both physical health and emotional comfort.

A Heart for Service

After 24 years in the industry, Kyle’s passion remains strong. His commitment to quality and care continues to shape the dining experience at Fairmont Senior Living of Washington Township.

He understands that in senior living, food can be a source of familiarity and joy. A favorite dessert may remind a resident of holidays past. A shared meal can turn into a cherished memory. The dining room can become a place where laughter and conversation brighten the day.

Pride in Food Service Week reminds us that these moments do not happen by accident. They are created by dedicated professionals who show up every day ready to serve.

Celebrating the Team Behind the Table

While Kyle leads the dietary department, he would be the first to say that great food service is a team effort. From prep cooks to servers, every member of the team plays a part in delivering consistent, high quality meals.

Together, they create a dining experience that reflects Fairmont’s commitment to dignity, connection, and excellence. Residents do not simply receive a meal. They receive an experience shaped by care and attention.
