Celebrating 2025 National Assisted Living Week: Recognizing Service and Enhancing Lives

2025 National Assisted Living Week (NALW), observed from September 7–13, is a time to honor the vital role assisted living communities play in the lives of older adults. This week is a celebration of the residents who call these communities home and a tribute to the dedicated caregivers and staff who ensure each day is filled with dignity, purpose, and compassion.

At Fairmont Senior Living, this week provides a meaningful opportunity to celebrate, reflect, and connect through vibrant activities, partnerships, and resident-centered programming. Whether you’re a family member, caregiver, or community member, celebrating National Assisted Living Week at Fairmont is a chance to experience the heart of what makes our communities truly special.

The Importance of Assisted Living Communities

Assisted living communities offer residents a sense of community, autonomy, and purpose while supporting them with daily tasks. Personalized care plans, engaging activities, health services, and nutritious meals all contribute to a vibrant lifestyle for older adults.

Fairmont Senior Living emphasizes relationship-building, emotional well-being, and physical wellness to help residents maintain independence and connection. Every aspect of community life is designed to nurture the mind, body, and spirit.

What Is National Assisted Living Week?

NALW was established in 1995 by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) to recognize the critical role assisted living communities play in enriching the lives of seniors. It’s a weeklong celebration that honors residents, families, caregivers, and the broader community.

The 2025 theme, “Ageless Adventure,” encourages communities to embrace discovery, joy, and the spirit of exploration at any age. Whether that means learning something new, stepping outside your comfort zone, or simply savoring meaningful moments, the theme highlights the idea that life’s adventures don’t stop with age—they evolve. Communities are encouraged to plan assisted living activities that reflect creativity, connection, and a fearless outlook on aging.

National Assisted Living Week Activities at Fairmont

Fairmont Senior Living celebrates NALW with purpose-driven events tailored to resident interests, local partnerships, and community engagement. This year, activities will include innovative uses of technology, intergenerational collaboration, and resident-led initiatives that reflect our values of creativity, connection, and compassion.

Intergenerational Tech Time

This year, we’re introducing tech-focused intergenerational events, such as “Teach Me Tech” workshops, where local students will help residents learn to use tablets and smartphones to connect with loved ones or enjoy favorite hobbies like digital art and online puzzles.

Virtual Storytelling Booths

Residents will share their personal stories in video-recorded interviews that can be compiled into a digital gallery for families and staff to enjoy. These stories reflect the depth of experience and wisdom in our communities and offer a meaningful way to preserve each legacy.

Creative Connection Projects

Collaborative art installations will be displayed throughout the community, created by residents and local schoolchildren working side-by-side. These colorful pieces will celebrate unity and the beauty of shared expression.

Volunteer Outreach With Local Nonprofits

We’ll partner with local shelters, animal rescues, and charities to offer volunteer opportunities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities. From assembling care packages to baking treats for rescue dogs, our communities thrive on purpose-filled giving.

Community Honor Events

Each Fairmont community will host a Resident Recognition Ceremony to celebrate the unique personalities and contributions of individuals who call Fairmont home. Whether it’s “Best Garden Grower,” “Joyful Spirit Award,” or “Kindness Ambassador,” we believe every resident has something to be celebrated.

The Spirit of NALW, Every Day

While 2025 National Assisted Living Week is a dedicated time to honor and celebrate our residents and staff, Fairmont Senior Living embraces this spirit year-round. Our assisted living program promotes autonomy and daily decision-making, empowering residents to take an active role in shaping their day.

From meaningful volunteer work to resident-led committees, the recognition, purpose, and care celebrated during NALW are embedded in Fairmont’s culture every single day.

At Fairmont, we provide a Montessori-Inspired lifestyle®, allowing residents to make daily decisions about activities and meals.

Real Moments, Real Joy: Celebrating the 2024 Theme at Every Fairmont Community

Each Fairmont community brought the 2024 National Assisted Living Week theme, “Inspiring Generations,” to life in heartfelt and creative ways, strengthening bonds across ages and highlighting the experiences that make every resident unique.

At Fairmont of Washington Township, residents welcomed a local Girl Scout troop—one of the girls had a great-grandmother in the community. Longtime Girl Scout and resident Barb shared her personal collection of patches and even brought out her original 1960s Girl Scout Guidebook, sparking laughter, curiosity, and meaningful stories across generations.

Fairmont of Northville hosted their beloved Intergenerational Apple Festival, complete with farm animals and a trip to a Detroit Tigers baseball game. Residents relished the crisp autumn air, fresh cider, and the energy of a day at the ballpark with family and friends.

At Fairmont of Farmington Hills, the week included a festive visit to a local pumpkin patch and corn maze, where residents enjoyed a picnic lunch and scenic strolls. They also visited their sister community, Fairmont of Northville, to enjoy a cheerful afternoon at the petting zoo, building friendships and fond memories along the way.

Fairmont of Westlake brought energy and joy to the week through themed dress-up days like Decade Day, Superhero Day, and Pajama Day. Residents also explored nature with a visit to the Lake Erie Nature and Science Center and capped off the week with a spirited outing to a local baseball game.

Fairmont on Clayton made 2024 unforgettable with a vibrant Color Splash Party, the cheerful sounds of the Jumping Flea’s Ukulele Group, and a lighthearted pie-eating contest that had residents and staff cheering with laughter.

These joyful celebrations are a reflection of what National Assisted Living Week means at Fairmont, a time to honor legacy, embrace connection, and fill every day with purpose and joy.

Each Fairmont location works closely with local organizations during NALW to make the celebration as meaningful as possible. In 2025, our partnerships include:

  • Schools: Students participate in joint art projects and intergenerational reading sessions.
  • Nonprofits: We’re coordinating supply drives and outreach projects that let residents give back.
  • Healthcare Groups: Guest speakers and therapists will host wellness workshops and movement classes tailored to senior needs.

These partnerships deepen our ties with the surrounding community and highlight the power of mutual respect across generations.

Looking Ahead: How Fairmont Communities Plan to Celebrate 2025 National Assisted Living Week

With this year’s theme, “Ageless Adventure,” each Fairmont Senior Living community is embracing the opportunity to explore new experiences, celebrate vibrant aging, and create unforgettable moments with residents, families, and local partners.

Here’s what some of our communities have in store for 2025 National Assisted Living Week, taking place from September 7–13:

Fairmont of Westlake

The team at Westlake is planning a community-wide outdoor concert on September 10, complete with a food truck and local vendors. The event will be open to families and guests, making it a true neighborhood celebration. They’re also discussing daily micro-events before and after the main week, including a possible return of their handmade putt-putt golf course, initially designed for Father’s Day, to offer a lighthearted and interactive outing for everyone.

Fairmont of Washington Township

Inspired by this year’s adventurous theme, Washington Township is brainstorming outings to local museums, including a hands-on science museum that’s perfect for all ages. The team is building a week filled with interactive experiences that bring out the childlike curiosity in every resident, with an emphasis on exploration and engagement.

Fairmont of Northville

Northville has big plans to keep spirits high during NALW with a Casino Night for residents and their families. Staff will serve as dealers for blackjack, poker, and roulette, ensuring a fun, festive evening. An Art Show Contest is also in the works, allowing families and staff to bid on resident artwork, turning creativity into a celebration of talent and connection.

Fairmont of Farmington Hills

Farmington Hills’ leadership team will be asking vendors to sponsor lunch for the staff during Assisted Living week. There will be raffles, ice cream social and pop-up games with prizes and fun trivia about Assisted Living. The community will also host a family fun Carnival day in September.

Fairmont on Clayton

Clayton is kicking off the week with a two-hour Picnic in the Parking Lot, featuring live music, grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, lawn games like bean bag toss and axe throwing, and lots of laughter. Additional ideas in development include:

  • Monday Kickoff Options: Either a “Margarita Monday” fiesta or “Color Me Monday,” featuring an inspirational community handprint art project.
  • Tropical Tuesday: Hawaiian shirts, grass skirts, leis, snow cones, and a possible Sip & Paint experience.
  • Patriot Day (Thursday, September 11): A day of remembrance and reflection with red, white, and blue attire and a patriotic program honoring those we’ve lost.
  • Fan Friday: A spirited close to the week with residents and staff wearing gear from their favorite sports teams.
