When the halls of Fairmont Senior Living of Westlake fill with the sounds of the season, it’s clear the holidays have arrived in full force. Residents, families, and staff came together this December for a meaningful celebration of music, joy, and togetherness, and as always, our residents took the lead.
The Fairmont Choir: Music With Purpose
Led by Robbie and Janet, this year’s Fairmont Choir was a perfect reflection of the spirit of our community. Robbie, last year’s prom queen, used her management background to help plan, create flyers, and coordinate the event. Janet, this year’s prom queen, brought her musical talent to the piano, selected songs, and even invited a former employee, and past choir member, to join on drums.
The choir included a number of resident voices, including Kevin, who shared scripture and sang a solo that meant a great deal to him. Louise, a lifelong music lover, also took the mic and brought the room to life with her performance. These roles gave residents a strong sense of identity and joy, while offering guests a heartwarming show.
Giving Tree Tradition: Resident-Led With Love
At the heart of our holiday giving spirit is the resident-led Giving Tree, a tradition started through the Helping Hands group. Residents made ornaments, decorated the tree, and gathered wish lists from fellow residents to ensure that every single person received a gift on Christmas Day.
The tree didn’t just symbolize generosity—it showcased how residents take pride in giving back to one another. Some even went out and purchased gifts themselves. The project was a beautiful example of our Montessori-Inspired Lifestyle in action: encouraging leadership, meaningful engagement, and peer-to-peer connection.
Holiday Party Highlights
Our holiday party was another standout event this December. As with every tradition at Fairmont, it was built by the residents, from choosing the food and decorations to setting up the space. Families were invited to join in the festivities, making for a warm and joyful evening.
Young visitors from the local Girl Scout troop stopped by to sing carols and play games with residents. Intergenerational moments like these add such energy to the holidays, bringing out smiles and laughter from both sides.
Musical Guests and Performances
In addition to our in-house choir, several performances brought cheer to Fairmont in December. One resident’s wife and sister-in-law offered a holiday concert of their own, adding a personal and heartwarming touch to the season. Later in the month, a local piano teacher hosted a recital at our community—the room filled with proud families and festive tunes.
To sweeten things even further, a group of Brownies visited with cookies and hot chocolate, wrapping up their caroling with a warm and cozy gathering that delighted everyone.
Welcoming the New Year
We didn’t stop the celebrations with Christmas. On December 31, residents rang in the new year with a party they helped design from top to bottom. From the live performance by Jim Kelley to the repurposed balloon decorations turned into a “balloon drop,” the event was festive, fun, and filled with laughter.
Champagne toasts, dancing, and camaraderie made for a perfect end to the holiday season — and a hopeful start to a new year.

A Holiday Season Led by Residents
What made this season so special wasn’t just the activities themselves—it was who made them happen. From planning to execution, residents played a major role in each event. They embraced meaningful responsibilities, collaborated with staff, and created experiences that brought joy to everyone involved.
This is the heart of the Montessori-Inspired Lifestyle at Fairmont: enabling residents to lead, engage, and feel empowered.
Come See the Joy for Yourself
Whether it’s the music of the choir, the creativity of the Giving Tree, or the excitement of a balloon drop at midnight, there’s always something meaningful happening at Fairmont Senior Living of Westlake.
