Valentine’s Day is about more than chocolates and cards—it’s about connection, joy, and the warmth that comes from being truly seen by the people around you. This year, the residents and teams across Fairmont Senior Living communities made sure that February 14th was something worth remembering. From pet therapy photo walls to speed dating, live music to spaghetti dinners, each community brought something unique to the celebration. Here’s a look at how love showed up across our communities this Valentine’s Day.
Washington Township: FurEver Our Valentine’s
At Fairmont Senior Living of Washington Township, the Memory Care community opened its doors, and its hearts, to something a little furry and a lot wonderful. Residents hosted a “FurEver Our Valentine’s” event, complete with a pet photo wall where visitors could have their picture taken with their beloved animals.
The residents didn’t just attend the event—they helped make it happen, working hard in the days leading up to Valentine’s Day to prepare goodie bags for every guest. Friends, family members, and community members from beyond the Fairmont walls responded with an outpouring of support, bringing their pets to share with residents throughout the day.
The response on social media captured it beautifully:
“Pet therapy offers so many meaningful benefits for our population, from sparking joyful memories and encouraging conversation to reducing stress and bringing pure happiness. The smiles, laughter, and warm moments we witnessed today were a beautiful reminder of the power of unconditional love.”
A very special thank you goes to resident Hazel, who co-coordinated the entire event alongside team member Megan. Hazel helped residents pose for photos, hand-selected accessories for the occasion, and made sure she personally spent time with every single pet in attendance, a responsibility she took very seriously, and executed beautifully.
Clayton: Bow Ties and Tiaras
Things got a little fancy at Fairmont Senior Living on Clayton, where residents dressed to impress for a Bow Ties and Tiaras Valentine’s Day Party. The ladies crowned themselves in tiaras, the gentlemen donned their best bow ties, and the room filled to capacity with overflow seating required to accommodate the crowd.
True to Fairmont’s Montessori Inspired Lifestyle, residents weren’t just guests at the party—they were the hosts. Residents helped prepare the food, including making sandwiches, cleaning strawberries, and arranging cupcake tier trays. The elegant menu included chicken salad sliders, fresh strawberries, cheesecake bites, and macaroons.
It was an afternoon of elegance, community, and the kind of celebration that reminds everyone that getting dressed up and enjoying good food with good company never goes out of style.

Westlake: A Valentine’s Dance to Remember
At Fairmont Senior Living of Westlake, residents took the reins on their Valentine’s Day celebration from start to finish and the result was nothing short of spectacular. Residents planned a Valentine’s Dance with live music, shopping for supplies alongside the activities staff, designing centerpieces, and setting tables dressed in black and red.
The creativity in the details was remarkable. Residents made chocolate-covered strawberries in the days prior and froze cranberry juice into heart-shaped ice cubes for the beverages. A local hospice generously donated a hot chocolate bar, and for those who wished, Irish cream and a sprite-cranberry cocktail with vodka were available to add a festive touch.
Resident Ben served as the opening act, setting the tone for an evening of dancing and celebration. Families were invited to join, and several attended, sharing the evening with their loved ones. After the dancing wound down, the party continued with a spaghetti and meatball dinner and tiramisu for dessert, a fitting, romantic close to a memorable evening.
Every element of the event, from setup to teardown, was led by residents. That spirit of ownership and participation is exactly what Montessori-Inspired Living looks like in action.
Northville: Speed Dating, Storytelling, and Community Connection
Fairmont Senior Living of Northville leaned fully into the fun this Valentine’s season and then some. The community’s long-running resident-led Party Planning Committee pulled off two memorable events and even ventured beyond the community walls.
First came a Valentine’s Day Singles Speed Dating Event, where residents gathered around a table and worked through a series of fun questions, sparking laughter, conversation, and maybe a little friendly competition. Then came the full Valentine’s Day Party, where residents did everything: blowing up balloons, setting tables, decorating, running the cocktail bar, passing out desserts, and preparing gift bags. Resident Elaine served as bartender, Lois staffed the refreshment table and passed out cookies and ice cream, and Ron played harmonica before the main entertainment. Married couples even participated in a Valentine Painting Project together. Entertainment for the evening was provided by Jacob from Heart to Heart, a resident-chosen performer.
But the celebration didn’t stop there. Later in the week, residents visited Westside Christian Academy, where they spent time with the Pre-K class. Resident Virginia led Story Time, reading “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands” to the children, and residents distributed Valentine’s Day gifts to students and teachers. It was a meaningful reminder that love and generosity extend well beyond our own front doors.
Farmington Hills: An Afternoon of Music and Romance
At Fairmont Senior Living of Farmington Hills, Valentine’s Day was celebrated with the timeless language of music. Residents enjoyed a special afternoon concert featuring guest pianist Dena Raptis, who performed a program of beautifully played classics and romantic melodies. Following the performance, residents gathered for light refreshments, savoring the warmth of the afternoon together.
It was an elegant, joyful celebration, a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful moments are the ones where you simply sit, listen, and let the music do the talking.
Love in Every Form
What stands out most across all five communities isn’t any single event or activity—it’s the way residents were at the center of every celebration. They planned, prepared, coordinated, performed, and hosted. They welcomed pets and children. They danced, dined, and dressed up. They showed, in every way imaginable, that love is an active thing.
At Fairmont Senior Living, every day is an opportunity to celebrate connection and Valentine’s Day gave us a beautiful reminder of just how much our residents have to give.
