Choosing a senior living community for someone you love is one of the most significant decisions a family will ever make. The building matters. The programs matter. But more than anything, the people matter.
At Fairmont Senior Living on Clayton, the team entrusted with resident care brings something that no brochure can fully capture: decades of lived experience in senior living, a genuine love for the people they serve, and a depth of expertise that gives families real confidence in the care their loved ones receive.
At the center of that team is Theresia, and her story is worth knowing.

A Career Built on Caring for Seniors
Theresia didn’t stumble into senior living. She built a career in it, deliberately, progressively, and with a clear sense of purpose that has never wavered.
She holds two healthcare degrees from Saint Louis University’s School of Public Health and Health Science: a Master of Health Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management. She is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator and a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), a credential that reflects specialized training in understanding and caring for individuals living with dementia. That expertise is especially meaningful at Fairmont on Clayton, where memory care residents are supported through a Montessori-based approach designed to honor their strengths, history, and identity.
Her career has taken her across virtually every setting that senior care has to offer: skilled nursing, assisted living, ICF-assisted living, memory care, rehabilitation services, adult day care, hospice, non-hospice respite, PACE programs, Life Plan Communities, hospital settings, and medical office practice. The breadth of that experience is not incidental. It means that when a family walks through the door at Fairmont on Clayton with questions, concerns, or a situation that doesn’t fit neatly into a category, Theresia has almost certainly navigated something like it before.
She has spent more than 30 years in the St. Louis area, with additional experience in Illinois and mid-Missouri. St. Louis is home in every sense: she was born and raised here, and her children, grandchildren, and extended family are all rooted in the city she has spent her career serving. That local connection is more than a biographical detail. It means she understands this community, the families who call it home, and what it means to find care close to the people you love.
What Keeps Her Here
When asked what she enjoys about working in senior living, Theresia doesn’t hesitate.
“There is no group that gives me more joy than our residents. When I hear about exceptional care provided by our team members, I know they made a difference in the lives of our residents. I am truly honored to serve at Fairmont Senior Living and committed to making a difference.”
That’s not a mission statement. That’s someone describing what gets them out of bed in the morning.
What she enjoys specifically about Fairmont on Clayton is the team itself. “There is truly nothing better when you have a team that demonstrates compassion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to enrich the lives of the residents and families. The leadership team empowers each other to make a lasting impact every single day in the lives we serve.”
That commitment shows up across the community every day, from the amenities and services that support resident comfort and independence, to the movement-based programming that keeps residents engaged and active, to the small personal gestures that make Clayton feel less like a facility and more like home.
A Team With Deep Roots
Theresia leads a team that, taken together, represents something remarkable: more than 150 years of collective experience in senior living, including more than 50 years of tenure specifically at Fairmont Senior Living on Clayton.
That kind of continuity is rare in this industry. It means that residents and families work with people who know the community inside and out, who have built relationships with residents over the years, and who bring a consistency of care that can only come from genuinely choosing to stay. Derrick Crawford, for example, has served as a cook at Fairmont on Clayton for over 20 years, a quiet, powerful example of the kind of long-term dedication that defines this team.
This is also what drew national recognition. Fairmont’s certifications and credentials, including the Montessori Inspired Lifestyle® gold credential from the Center for Applied Research in Dementia, reflect an organization that holds itself to a high standard and invests in the people and programs that make that standard real.
For families evaluating a community, staff tenure is one of the most honest signals of whether a place is well-run and genuinely cares about the people who live and work there. By that measure, Fairmont on Clayton speaks for itself. And for those considering a career in this field, Careers in Aging Month sheds further light on what draws people to this work, and what keeps them here for decades.
Experience That Families Can Feel
It would be easy to list credentials and call it a day. But what Theresia and her team have built at Fairmont on Clayton is something that goes beyond a resume. It’s a culture, shaped by years of experience, servant leadership, and a shared belief that every resident deserves to be known, valued, and genuinely cared for.
Families who visit often say they can feel it before they can fully articulate it. The staff who remember a resident’s preferences without being reminded. The leadership team that’s visible and present. The sense that this is a place where people choose to work, not just where they end up.
That’s what decades of committed service look like when it takes root in a community. You can read what families and residents have experienced firsthand on our testimonials page.
